Blocking, reporting, and staying safe

How to deal with someone who's out of order, and how we handle it.

If someone makes you uncomfortable, you don’t owe them a conversation. Here’s what to do.

Blocking

Blocking is immediate and total. From their profile or the chat, choose Block.

Once blocked:

They can’t see your profile, in Discover, in search, or by QR code.
They can’t message you.
Any match between you ends, and the chat goes.
They aren’t told that you blocked them.

You can unblock later from Settings if you change your mind.

Reporting

Blocking removes someone from your experience. Reporting tells us about them, which is what stops them doing it to somebody else. If someone has crossed a line, please do both.

Reports go to a real moderation queue and are reviewed by a person. You won’t get a running commentary on the outcome, because we don’t share what action we take against another account, but the report absolutely gets read.

Report anything along these lines:

Harassment, threats, or abuse
Nudity or sexual content sent without consent
Anyone who appears to be under 18
Fake profiles, catfishing, or someone using someone else’s photos
Anyone asking you for money, crypto, or gift cards (see below)

Romance scams

The pattern is consistent enough to be worth naming. Someone is unusually intense unusually fast, always has a reason they can’t video call, and eventually there’s a crisis that money would solve.

Nobody you have met on a dating app needs your money. Not for a flight, not for a customs fee, not for a medical bill, not for an investment opportunity that’s closing today. If money comes up, stop, and report them.

Meeting in person

Meet somewhere public the first time, and get yourself there and back.
Tell someone where you’re going and when you expect to be home.
Video call first. Anyone who won’t is telling you something.
If you feel off about it, leave. You don’t need a reason and you don’t owe an explanation.

Photos and video

Everything uploaded is automatically screened before it goes live. It isn’t perfect, which is why reporting matters.
